Responding to a need for funds to support Easter Seals Camp Horizon, a facility for special needs groups, Doug created the corporate sponsorship and participant programs, and all marketing and communications aspects for the Banded Peak Challenge. The event raised $160,000 in cash, goods and services in 3 years. Doug was awarded the Queen’s Jubilee Medal for his efforts. next . . .
The first Mac hit the streets. Doug took it into The Montreal Gazette newsroom, creating information graphics and a revolution in the way newspapers are made there. He helped set up Gazetel, the newspaper’s first online sevice.
He continues to turn complex concepts into sensible information, working with creative people to produce effective communications.
The IBM PC was in development. A revolution in communications technology was about to unfold. When Air Canada first realized that electronic commerce and automated ticketing were coming, they called Doug to plan and analyze surveys of customer attitudes, then provide prototype applications for automated customer services.
Doug Sephton enjoys building relationships with people through innovative use of technology. He pioneered the use of digital media - as a creative services provider for some of Canada?s largest corporations, and during a nine-year stint at The Montreal Gazette. He continues to transform the objectives of corporate and institutional clients into meaningful and effective communications.
Doug has the flexibility to assess needs, identify objectives and provide direction and organization to team members. Using good judgement to plan and implement projects and activities, he develops strategies and evaluation systems in a determined effort to achieve goals while ensuring sound financial management. Drawing on his multi-faceted experience, he has developed and implemented programs and strategies to create the Banded Peak Challenge. This fundraiser provides real value to the event sponsors, participants, and ultimately, seriously ill or disabled children.
The Canadian Pacific Railway had Doug produce a gallery of archival images, a web store for collectibles and a tour promotion for the Royal Canadian Pacific. Doug also created, owns and operates the Bragg Creek web site. From 1986 to 1996, he introduced digital art to the designers and illustrators in The Gazette art department, flattening the learning curve for journalists and editors in the newsroom, while producing daily information graphics. He helped set up Gazetel, the first online experience for that newspaper.
In 1979 he pioneered the use of Videotex technology on the Bell Vista system and Infomart?s Teleguide and Grassroots services. Creating graphics, electronic timetables, marketing reports and designing displays for news, travel & tourism, commercial products, training and corporate promotions. Doug published the newsletter ?New Media News in 1984-85. He helped develop touch-screen ticketing terminals for airlines and at Expo ?86.
